As late autumn gently gives way to early winter, a short yet intensive Han–Tibetan Translation Workshop came to a successful close last Saturday.

Under the guidance of Professor Hsiao Chih-lung, students in the course Tibetan Grammar and Sentence Structures have been engaging in an in-depth study of The Precious Garland of the Supreme Path by the great master Gampopa. Alongside their rigorous training in Buddhist texts and treatises, Professor Sonam Wangyal also led selected participants and students from Fo Guang University in a six-week Han–Tibetan Translation Workshop.

Through five focused and intensive sessions, participants continued moving steadily toward the next milestone on their journey of scripture translation.

Participant Ye Shu-jun shared:

“In Professor Su’s workshop, I came to deeply realize that translation is not merely the transfer of language, but a union of understanding, faith, and practice. Beyond resolving technical questions, we learned that translation must be grounded in the altruistic aspiration described in The Bodhicaryāvatāra. Only by transforming our inner resonance with the Dharma into precise and faithful words can the lineage of the teachings truly be carried forward.”

Over these past weeks of intensive training, every participant has developed a stronger commitment and deeper insight into the vocation of translation. Carrying this inspiration and aspiration forward, we look ahead with anticipation to another fulfilling semester.
