Professor Huaiyu Chen from Arizona State University's Visit and Seminar

On June 13, Professor Huai Chen Huaiyu from the Department of Religious Studies at Arizona State University visited Fo Guang University's College of Buddhist Studies and the Center for Buddhist Studies.

During his visit, he met with faculty and students from the Department of Buddhist Studies for a seminar session. Professor Chen's past research topics include the revival of Buddhist monastic discipline by Daoxuan and medieval monastic communities as shown  in his book, The Revival of Buddhist Monasticism in Medieval China (2007), and the relationship between Buddhism and animals (Animals and the Medieval Political-Religious Order). In recent years, he has also explored the development of historiography in both Eastern and Western contexts.

During the discussion, students enthusiastically raised various questions from different academic perspectives, which Professor Chen answered in detail, sharing his research experiences.
