Comprehensive Education

The College of Buddhist Studies at Fo Guang University (DBS) is committed to a holistic approach to education that balances academic achievement with moral and ethical cultivation. DBS firmly believes that true understanding of Buddhist teachings comes not only from intellectual study but also from the lived experience of Buddhist practice.

To embody this belief, the College uniquely divides its education into two complementary parts: academic education and life education. Academic education is provided by the DBS academic college (佛教學院), where students engage in rigorous scholarly study of Buddhist texts, history, and philosophy. Life education, on the other hand, is offered by the Yunshui residential college (雲水書院), where students immerse themselves in the daily practices of Buddhist living.

Through this integrated approach, students at DBS are encouraged to live the teachings they study, gaining profound insights that enrich both their academic understanding and personal growth. By practicing what they learn in a communal setting that reflects the principles of Buddhism, students develop a deep, experiential connection to the Dharma, fostering wisdom that goes beyond the classroom.
