The 110th Graduation Exhibition of the Department of Buddhist Studies at Fo Guang University, titled "Encountering the Self: Returning to the Original Aspiration," opened warmly at 10:00 a.m. on May 21 in Classroom 117 of Yun Shui Xuan. Faculty and students gathered for the opening ceremony to witness the fruits of the graduates’ four years of study and transformation.
Dean Lee Kun-Chung, Department Chair Dr. Cheng Wei-Yi, and several faculty members gave remarks, offering encouragement and affirming how the students had translated the spirit of Buddhist teachings into creativity and practice. Dean Lee remarked, “Each exhibit is a crystallization of wisdom, shaped with care and dedication. This exhibition not only presents student achievements, but also conveys the values and spirit of the Department of Buddhist Studies.”
The opening ceremony also featured a heartfelt speech by student exhibition coordinator Li Cheng-En, who shared, “This exhibition has been a deeply personal journey. Each student completed their project independently—from conception to research, execution to presentation—crafted with their own hands, hearts, and minds. Through this process, we have come to know ourselves more intimately and authentically. That is the true meaning of ‘Encountering the Self.’”
Bathed in the gentle light of early summer, this exhibition unfolds quietly in Yun Shui Xuan 117 as a profound inner dialogue. Centered on the theme of “original aspiration,” it is not only a reflection on the students’ academic journey, but also a contemplative path back to inner clarity and sincerity. The diverse displays include artistic creations, academic research, personal reflections, and Buddhist practice, showcasing each student’s interpretation of Buddhist wisdom and the meaning of life.
The exhibition runs from May 21 to May 28, and all faculty, staff, and students are warmly invited to visit Classroom 117 in Yun Shui Xuan to walk this heart-led journey together and rediscover the initial inspiration and vows shared by the graduating Class of 110.
