Visit from the Delegation of the Buddhist Academy in Hue

On 30th October 2023, the venerable Thich Hai An, Rector of the Buddhist Academy in Hue, visited the Department of Buddhist Studies (DBS) at Fo Guang University, accompanied by five other monastic members. They were warmly welcomed by Prof. Wei-Yi Cheng, the Chair of DBS, as well as Ven. Thich Buu Dinh and Ven. Thich Thong Tinh, both of whom are pursuing their M.A. at DBS. 越南順化佛學院海印法師到訪學系

Prof. Cheng began by expressing her heartfelt appreciation for the warm hospitality she received during her prior visit to the Buddhist Academy in Hue. She then provided an overview of the Department of Buddhist Studies (DBS), highlighting its academic emphasis and interdisciplinary approach. She pointed out that DBS possesses a collection of Buddhist manuscripts originating from Vietnam and encouraged Vietnamese students to delve into these resources. Emphasizing the educational objectives of DBS, she articulated the department's aim to broaden students' perspectives and expressed a keen interest in fostering increased collaboration and exchange between DBS and the Buddhist Academy in Hue. 

Ven. Thich Hai An shared that their primary reason for being in Taiwan was to conduct Buddhist services. However, upon hearing about a university established by Grand Master Hsin Yun, they felt compelled to visit. He explained that the primary mission of the Buddhist Academy in Hue is to educate and nurture Buddhist monastics. The academy recently inaugurated a graduate institute, offering courses in Buddhist history, philosophy, and languages. He emphasized that in the coming years, the Academy plans to place greater focus on language training. Currently, the Academy proudly hosts over five hundred students.

Following their discussion, Prof. Cheng, representing the Department of Buddhist Studies (DBS), presented gifts to the delegation, and in turn, received gifts from them. Subsequently, Ven. Thich Buu Dinh and Ven. Thich Thong Tinh guided the delegation on a tour of the DBS facilities.
