The Department of Buddhist Studies at Fo Guang University welcomes Overseas Chinese, Hong Kong and Macau applicants interested in Buddhist studies and practice to apply for its Bachelor’s and Master’s programs.

Application Period: October 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.–November 20, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. (Taiwan time)

No application fee. Applications and supporting documents must be submitted online.

A. Overseas Chinese Students

How Can I Confirm My Eligibility?

Applicants must meet the Overseas Chinese status, overseas residence, and other eligibility requirements specified in the current admission guidelines. Supporting documents proving identity and residence status must be submitted for verification by the competent authorities.

Applicants holding a foreign passport may still fall under the Overseas Chinese admission category. Those with dual nationality, previous household registration in Taiwan, or a history of study in Taiwan should consult the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs before applying.

B. Hong Kong and Macau Students

How Can I Confirm My Eligibility?

Applicants must meet the Hong Kong or Macau resident status, overseas residence, and other eligibility requirements specified in the current admission guidelines.

Required documents include proof of identity, the Hong Kong or Macau resident eligibility confirmation form, and other documents specified for the applicant’s category.

All applicants’ status and academic qualifications are subject to verification under the admission guidelines. If you are unsure about your eligibility, please contact the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs.

1. Application Period and Procedures

Applicable to Both Applicant Categories

This admission route is Fo Guang University’s Separate Admission for Overseas Chinese, Hong Kong and Macau Students for Spring 2027, with enrollment in February 2027.

1. Application Period: October 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.–November 20, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. (Taiwan time).

2. Application System: Fo Guang University Online Admissions System.

3. Application Procedure: Select the appropriate admission category, complete the application, list your program preferences, and upload all required documents.

4. Program Preferences: Applicants may list up to three program preferences. Those who wish to prioritize admission to this Department should list the Department of Buddhist Studies as their first choice.

5. Application Fee: No application fee.

Creating an account or entering application information alone does not complete the application. All required documents must be uploaded before the deadline.

2. Academic Eligibility

Bachelor’s Program:
Applicants must hold a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification recognized under the applicable regulations.

Master’s Program:
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or a recognized equivalent qualification.

Applicant status, academic qualifications, recognition of credentials, and document authentication are governed by the current admission guidelines.

3. Required Documents

1. A completed document checklist.

2. An application form generated by the online system, with the required photograph and signatures.

3. Proof of identity and residence status.

4. A graduation certificate or an acceptable certificate of current enrollment.

5. Academic transcripts.

6. An autobiographical statement and a study plan.

7. A declaration of status and academic qualifications, and a personal data consent form.

8. Additional documents required for the applicant’s category, such as the Hong Kong or Macau resident eligibility confirmation form or a declaration of never having established household registration in Taiwan.

9. Optional supporting materials, such as recommendation letters, language proficiency certificates, research or academic achievements.

Documents must be authenticated, translated into Chinese, and uploaded as PDF files in accordance with the admission guidelines. Please prepare your documents early and allow sufficient time for authentication.

4. Admission Results and Important Notes

• Admission Results: Scheduled to be announced at 10:00 a.m. on January 6, 2027. This schedule may change depending on the competent authorities’ verification of applicants’ status.

• Supplementary Documents: Supplementary submissions or document replacements will not be accepted after the application deadline. Check that all required documents are complete, properly signed, and clearly legible.

• Notifications: Regularly check your email and the University’s admissions announcements for review and interview notifications.

• Enrollment Procedures: Admitted applicants must confirm their intention to enroll by the required deadline, arrange entry and residence documentation, present original documents, and complete registration.

Arrival, registration, and semester commencement dates will be confirmed in subsequent official University notices.

5. Scholarships and Financial Aid

The University offers the Elite Buddhist Studies Scholarship and other scholarships and financial aid for overseas students.
