Application Qualifications
 
BA Program:  
Applicants must have an strong interest to learn and ability to stay in the department dormitory. All classes for the BA program are conducted in Mandarin Chinese.  Chinese-taught departments and degree programs require submission of the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) A2 examination or other relevant Chinese language proficiency certification.


   
MA Program: 
 
Applicants should have a strong interest in conducting academic research and be willing to participate in the practice courses offered by Yunshui Residential College. While applicants who are unable to reside in the department dormitory are welcome to apply, they will not be eligible for the DBS Scholarship.

Since the 2012 academic year, the MA program has offered both Mandarin Chinese and English tracks, with a strong emphasis on training bilingual Chinese-English talents. Applicants with an interest in Chinese-English Buddhist translation work are especially encouraged to apply.

Non-native English speakers require submission of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) B1 examination or other relevant English language proficiency certification. 

Students who lack foundational knowledge in classical Sanskrit, Pali, Tibetan, or Classical Chinese must take the appropriate makeup courses offered at the undergraduate level by the department. Only one canonical language is required.



 
PhD Program: 

Prospective candidates for our Ph.D. program are required to demonstrate a high proficiency in Classical Chinese and possess a master's degree accredited by the Ministry of Education in their home country.
