During this summer vacation, I had the fortunate opportunity to be recommended by Venerable Miàojiā to travel to Xilai Temple in Los Angeles, USA, to serve as a volunteer.
The summer vacation fell during the busiest time of the year for Xilai Temple. Despite taking some time off for recovery due to illness midway, I still participated in various wonderful activities at the temple after regaining my health. These included the lively Independence Day parade, the Yulanpen Sutra Recitation Ceremony organized by the International Buddhist Light Association North America, and the Youth Chan Mind-Life Experience Camp. From the Guest Reception Team led by Venerable Miàohuáng to the Social Education Team led by Venerable Huìchéng, and then to the Youth Volunteer Team led by Venerable Zhīyì.
Coming to serve at Xilai Temple was a small step out of my comfort zone. Serendipity brought me here, allowing me to meet young volunteers and fellow Dharma brothers and sisters from around the world. It was a wonderful and humbling experience.
The two months flew by in the blink of an eye. The various experiences during the journey have now become precious memories, carried in my luggage and heart. I hope that in the future, karmic connections will bring more opportunities for me to enjoy the California sunset and the wonderful people of Xilai Temple .
