Venerable Yuan Li, a senior Buddhist monastic from Vietnam, recently visited the Department of Buddhist Studies at Fo Guang University to meet and express his care for Vietnamese monastic students who have traveled to Taiwan to pursue their studies. During his visit, he also met with Vice President Ma, accompanied by the Dean of the College of Buddhist Studies and the Chair of the Department of Buddhist Studies.

Venerable Yuan Li expressed his concern for the Vietnamese monastics’ studies and daily life at Fo Guang University and conveyed his appreciation for the University’s continued support in providing a welcoming learning environment and educational resources.

During the exchange, Venerable Yuan Li shared his deep admiration for Venerable Master Hsing Yun and the spirit of Humanistic Buddhism. He recalled having had several opportunities to meet Master Hsing Yun in the past and said that the Master’s dedication to promoting Humanistic Buddhism and education had left a lasting impression on him.

Visiting Fo Guang University in person, he remarked that “seeing is believing.” He was impressed not only by the beautiful campus but also by the University’s dedicated faculty and excellent learning environment. He noted that it is a precious opportunity for Vietnamese monastics to receive their education at Fo Guang University.

Through the academic progress and dedication of the Vietnamese monastics studying at the University, Venerable Yuan Li also expressed his confidence in the future development of Vietnamese Buddhism. He encouraged the students to cherish their time at Fo Guang University. Regardless of where they may serve or what responsibilities they may undertake after returning to Vietnam, he hopes they will bring the knowledge, values, and spirit they have gained at Fo Guang University back home and apply them to Dharma propagation and service, becoming outstanding future leaders of Vietnamese Buddhism.

Vice President Ma welcomed Venerable Yuan Li on behalf of Fo Guang University and noted that several Vietnamese monastics are currently studying at the University. Fo Guang University will continue to support and nurture these students and looks forward to welcoming Venerable Yuan Li again in the future for further exchanges. Such visits will also provide opportunities for Vietnamese students to share their experiences and achievements from their studies in Taiwan.

This meaningful visit not only demonstrated Venerable Yuan Li’s care for Buddhist students studying abroad but also strengthened the bridge between Taiwan and Vietnam through Buddhist education. Through cross-cultural learning, young monastics can deepen their academic knowledge and develop their capacity for Dharma propagation and service, opening new possibilities for the cultivation of future Buddhist leaders.
