In order to encourage postgraduates to study the reading and translation of Buddhist literature in foreign languages, and to cultivate academic talents with the ability to translate Japanese Buddhist literature, the School of Buddhism will hold a five-day "Japanese Buddhist Literature Translation Training Workshop" from September 5. Professor Chen Yibiao, Associate Professor Chen Shunyi from the Department of Japanese Language and Literature of China Culture University, and Associate Professor Wu Cuihua from the Department of Applied Foreign Languages of Yuan Ze University taught as teachers, leading more than 100 online and offline students through courses such as translation practice, translation skills and contextual understanding step by step study.
Dean Guo Chaoshun of the Buddhist College welcomed all the students at the opening ceremony. He said that the Department of Buddhist Studies continued to hold various translation workshops in Tibetan, Japanese and English, hoping to cultivate more academic elites, and hoped to establish The Japanese Buddhist literature translation team uses systematic and academic training to gather professional translation talents to contribute to the research of Japanese Buddhist literature.
Professor Chen Yibiao mentioned in his speech that when he was a student, he studied under the teacher Xu Yangzhu and received intensive Japanese and other Buddhist classics, which greatly helped his later academic research. Teacher Xu Yangzhu once told him that the best way to thank a teacher is to "pass what you have learned to others". He encouraged the students to cherish the time in the workshop, make good use of every second to learn, ask the teacher for advice, and let the language no longer be a problem. An obstacle to one’s own academic research, but a stepping stone to knowledge.
The workshop courses were wonderful. Professor Chen Yibiao taught "Japanese Buddhist Literature Translation Practice", Associate Professor Chen Shunyi taught "Japanese-Chinese Translation Basic Skills and Practice", Associate Professor Wu Cuihua taught "Practical Translation Essentials", "Translation and Culture, Language Circumstance Understanding", led by a group of lecturers, graduate students from the Department of Buddhist Studies of Foguang University and its sister schools, systematically studied the translation of Japanese Buddhist literature from theoretical basis to practical operation.
