International Students

Students of DBS (College and Department of Buddhist Studies) come from all over the world!  A great proportion  of our students are international students.  For example, as of year 2018, there were students from 15 different countries: mostly from Southeast Asia such as Vietnam, Malaysia and Hong Kong, but there were also students from India, Europe, Central Asia and South Africa. International students study and live alongside with local students. It is a very good way to experience Chinese culture.

For our B.A. and Ph.D. programs, we offer courses in the Chinese only. But M.A. students may choose to  enroll in the English-track program; that is, instruction conducted
entirely in English.

DBS is not a language-teaching institute. For our
potential students, proficiency in either English or Chinese is essential.  However, it does not mean there is no chance to learn Chinese. In the M.A. English-track program, we offer courses in Chinese sutra-reading which teaches students the basic skills of reading classical Chinese. We sometimes hold extracurricular  classes of Chinese language, providing international students with the opportunity to learn modern Chinese.  DBS strives to give our students a good learning experience and our international students are the integrate part of this  multicultural  experience.
